Three years ago, Jon Allen could be found brewing coffee in the Roesch Library basement, behind the counter of The Blend. Today, he is CEO of Flyer Enterprises (FE), the $1.2 million student-run company that oversees The Blend and 9 other divisions. FE gives UD students the opportunity to be hands-on and apply concepts learned in the classroom to real-life business situations.

As CEO of Flyer Enterprises, one of the largest student-run businesses in the country, Stephanie exudes confidence and a can-do spirit. Those are traits found throughout her executive team — fellow undergraduates who help her oversee 10 divisions in a $1.2 million company.

Whitney Johnson authored an article in Harvard Business Review titled, “Why Today’s Teens Are More Entrepreneurial than Their Parents.” In this piece, Johnson states that Generation Z’s teenagers no longer work in customary first jobs. She claims over 70% of teenagers have roles that can be described as self-employed, while only 12% hold down traditional positions. The path that many generations before followed in the workforce during adolescent years no longer holds true.

Located next to St. Mary’s Hall, the Heritage Center, a space formerly dedicated to artifacts, photographs and multimedia displays that brought University of Dayton’s history to life, has been rejuvenated. The space has been transformed into a coffeehouse.

The University of Dayton was named the 11th-best school in the nation for students aspiring to launch their own businesses. The Princeton Review and Entrepreneur magazine listed the University among the Top 25 Undergraduate Schools for Entrepreneurship Studies for the 12th year in a row. The program jumped four spots for 2018, and was the highest ranked in Ohio and among Catholic institutions nationwide.
